How long it takes

The New Zealand Certificate in Flooring Surface Preparation, Level 4 typically takes 12-24 months to complete depending on what strands you choose and for people new to the industry.

What you'll learn

You'll learn the skills and gain the knowledge required by people working in flooring preparation.

This qualification covers:

Core compulsory

  • evaluating substrate surfaces for flooring operations,
  • evaluating floor substrate for surface preparation operations,
  • completing basic flooring substrate preparation.

Electives - you must choose at least 1 of the following strands that cover what you'll be doing on-the-job:

Mechanical preparation

  • Mechanically preparing complex timber and concrete flooring substrates
  • Will include mechanically preparing internal and external corners and falls for wet areas.

Moisture treatment systems

  • Consistently applying moisture control systems
  • Application of moisture control systems

Underlayment Systems

  • Applying bulk filling and self-levelling cementitious underlayment
  • Prepare and install board underlayment
